Primland Resort is an outdoor-lovers paradise located within a 12,000-acre pristine wooded preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia. Current plans by the developers include a new 26-room lodge and conference center as well as several phases of single family residential construction that will take place over a period of several years. An existing 18-hole golf course, designer Donald Steele’s The Highland Course at Primland, named the 2007 “Best New Public Course in America”, is in operation and provides a central attraction to the vacation destination. Planned future construction may include approximately 300 single-family residential lots within the next six years in various areas of the Resort. ACS DESIGN prepared the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) that detailed the options available for a 130,000 gallons per day (GPD) wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and a low pressure sewer forcemain system or a vacuum sewer system.
The PER contained specific and detailed cost estimates for all sanitary sewer components and in particular compared and contrasted the respective costs for a packaged steel treatment facility and a cast-in-place concrete treatment facility. Completed in May 2009, ACS provided professional services for the design of a sanitary sewer pump station and forcemain for the lodge, the design of a wastewater treatment plant and effluent disposal system for the entire development, as well as the preparation of a Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permit with Virginia Pollution Abatement (VPA) Reuse and Reclamation under the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) guidelines.
