Boundary surveys are used to confirm or re-establish property lines. For example, when a piece of land is surveyed, a surveyor will locate as many existing corner monuments as they can find and take measurements (angles and distances) to each one. Using a record description of your property (usually in the form of a deed and/or a map/plat), the surveyor is able to determine what corners are accurate enough to use as a basis for confirming or re-establishing your boundary. An interesting point to note is that a surveyor does not necessarily need to find the actual corners of the line in question to re-establish a boundary line. Using coordinate geometry, a surveyor can use angles and distances from adjoining properties to reestablish missing corners or forgotten property lines. As always, its better safe than sorry... give us a call and we can help.
